Taking part in the award with D.T.C.S. could not be easier. We can put you in contact with your local co-ordinator who will be able to offer you support and advise as well as ordering your groups Entrance Packs.

Probably the most difficult section of the award to complete is the expedition section, this is due to the level of qualified and experienced staff required to allow the outdoor experience to be fun and safe. Being an Outdoor Education and Youth work Consultancy we can train and assess young people through this section of the award at all three levels of Bronze,Silver and Gold.

The other three sections of the award, Service, Skill and Physical Recreation is primarily for young people to use there own initiative and set up activities for themselves that they are interested in and by doing so help to develop many of the skills listed above.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award and it's unique structure is gaining in popularity yearly. It's a nationally recognised award which when completed says a lot about a person attitude and abilities.

The award stand by nine key points:-

  1. Non competitive.
  2. Available to all.
  3. Flexible.
  4. Balanced.
  5. Progressive.
  6. Achievement focussed.
  7. Marathon not a sprint.
  8. Process not prize.
  9. Enjoyable.

The essence of the award is that it is a challenge to the individual not a competition. It is therefore the taking part that counts as well as personal development.

"To a great experience one thing is essential; an experiencing nature" W.Bagehot (1826 - 1877).
